The company was founded in 2001 by Stephen and Moira Malcolm. Rainbow Glass Studio has since grown to become the largest stained-glass studio in Scotland with a multi-skilled team of 10 employees. We have extensive experience in both contemporary, historic glass and conservation of all types of glass within the UK and Scottish Isles. Moira has fine art background. She began studies in Edinburgh College of Art followed by an “apprenticeship” in a leading stained-glass conservation company. Stephen trained as a stained-glass glazier / conservator and decorative glass embosser within the same company before progressing to form their own company.
Moira Malcolm became an accredited artist of the Church of Scotland in 2001 and now has accumulated an impressive portfolio as a contemporary artist. These include a full scheme of 8 windows depicting Creation for Old Cumnock Church and most recently a Full West Wall Commission for St Joseph’s Church, Blantyre that covered 270 square feet.
Stephen Malcolm has successfully completed the Chemistry for Conservators IAP course. He excels in conservation glass painting of all styles while also having excellent practical knowledge of site installation. Each year the company has grown and have now completed many large-scale conservation projects in historic listed buildings such as McEwan Hall, Edinburgh and Marischal College, Saint Machars' Cathedral in Aberdeen.
All members of Rainbow Glass Studio are multi-skilled crafts persons and work well together as a team. Both Moira and Stephen always strive to work to each person’s strengths and believe fully in CPD for all team members. In 2011, Rainbow Glass Studio welcomed new director, Mr Chris Chesney PACR Accredited Conservator.
This skillset combined with a new fully equipped work studio will give you peace of mind that we can deliver any project on time and to our own very high standards.
We are members of the Scottish Stained-Glass Symposium, based at Church of Scotland, Edinburgh. This committee discuss the future development and preservation of stained glass within Scotland. Moira has recently been appointed chair of ICON stained glass group.
“A unique family run company that aims to conserve the glorious historic stained-glass windows within Scotland, while also striving to create new contemporary works of art.”
